Google Reader and Embedded Videos

Nick Clarke | February 19, 2008

I use Google Reader as my main RSS client. For me it has answered all of my problems I had with using a desktop client + it allows me to share posts that I think are interesting without having to write a post myself by just clicking a button. It does however have some oddities itself e.g. phantom posts that I can never find but are in my sidebar folder structure.

Yesterday I noticed another feature, someone shared a post of mine and I noticed that my embedded video was not displaying!

After hunting around and comparing a couple of other RSS feeds I noticed that Google Reader seems to be stripping out YouTube <object> tags. To fix the problem I had to use <embed>. After waiting for Google to refresh their cache it is now working + I also get a nice popout link (something they must add).

If you are also experiencing the same problem be sure to check out what html is being generated by your site and then subsequently removed by Google Reader.

Nick Clarke | November 14, 2007

Yesterday I downloaded the Android SDK for Googles new mobile platform and this lunch time I get to play with it :)

Downloaded, Installed and now what! I know check out my own site:

Google Android

I guess now it is time to take a look into how you code one of these mobile applications.

Palm + Android = Happiness?

Palm + Android = Happiness?

About 6 years ago I owned a Palm device, so it is a shame to hear that Palm is falling on hard times. Maybe Google’s Android could be what they have been looking for, as it has been rumored for a while that Palm are developing a Linux based OS for themselves.

For me Palm was always like how the Mac is to the PC market, summed up in one word: Style

Engadget has a nice post on its thoughts on the possible Android and Palm partnership.

Update: Palm confirms that there will be no partying with the little green robot.

More GSoftware than GPhone

Nick Clarke | November 5, 2007

For months now the internet has been rife with GPhone this and GPhone that! Well I guess not any more, as there is no GPhone.

On the 12th of November Google is releasing a preview of their OS for mobile phones. Yep, thats correct no hardware solution but a Linux based OS for your mobile phone. Google plans to open up the phone and make it an easier platform to develop your applications on. Maybe this is something the iPhone should have done from the start, but I guess developers will always hack to some extent as by nature we are curious.

It’s called Android and be sure to check out the cool green robot logo :D

Google Android Logo

From looking at the press release there are some big players getting in on the action, but Nokia who is the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world is no where to be seen - at least at the moment.

Still skeptical!? Well I guess we will see for sure on the 12th.
Keep an eye on your RSS feeds and the Open Handset Alliance site.
